Specialized Day Care

Summit Adult Day changed status from Basic to “Specialized Day Care” effective August 2013 by the State of Colorado Dept of Public Health. Colorado is one state that does have specialized requirements for dementia- specific facilities. The state certifies specialized Adult Day Centers to provide intensive health supportive services for the clients with a primary diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Multiple Sclerosis, brain injury, chronic mental illness, or development disability or post-stroke participants who require extensive rehabilitative therapies.

Along with companionship, activities and support, the center provides a restorative model of care, all supervised by a registered nurse, or MA or by a CNA under nursing supervision. The center has annual inspections and unannounced visits by the State Dept. The state has staffing and service requirements for the center that is not required by the basic Adult Day centers. To be specialized means that the day care can perform special treatments that might be necessary to the client, such as; nursing care, physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy. In other words, giving more care to the clients.

All Summit Adult Day Clients must have a physician referral, and each client has their personal care plan, along with a personal onsite assessment. Medications can be given at the center if necessary with a current medical order from the doctor. The center accepts, insurance Medicare and private pay. And offers a free trial day to evaluate the client’s personal needs.

The Summit Activity Transport company provides transportation to and from the center for their clients. The vans can accommodate wheel chairs with their lifts. Summit Adult Day Care Center is active in several associations by doing fund raisers. This last month, the Summit Center raised over $2000 for the Alzheimer’s Association and an additional $2000 for the Rocky Mountain Stroke Association. The Summit center is owned by two Registered Nurses. Liz Littleton and Eunice Kinrade.
